Nonprofit Protection
The Nonprofit Legal Protection Project is a legal resource built to ensure that the laws that protect federal funding to nonprofits will be followed, so nonprofits can continue to fulfill their charitable missions.
Overseen by LCRI with financial support from United Way of Rhode Island and Rhode Island Foundation, NLPP connects nonprofits with a national law firm – Feldesman Liefer – that has deep expertise in federal grants and compliance. Feldesman Liefer provides training and technical assistance to both nonprofits and the lawyers who volunteer to help them.
Volunteer attorneys can support nonprofits by:
- Translating technical trainings to a nonprofit’s particular circumstances.
- Advising nonprofit staff and boards to help them understand their options in the face of federal actions.
- Representing a nonprofit in a regulatory or court challenge to federal action.
Both the national firm and LCRI staff attorneys provide training, support, and advising to volunteer attorneys.
